Blogger Madness
It's spreading like wild fire. The news is out. Blogger has been deleting music blogs left, right, front and center to those who posted the leaked song, "Mariah Carey - Touch My Body", after complains from her label. This is creating a lot of resentment towards Blogger, Mariah Carey and the recording industry. However, I think they are just trying to do business. Too bad it's so harsh that they just delete people's blog for it. Some people do put in hardwork on their blogs and it's all gone by a simple delete button. I just think that it will always be hard to regulate an open commodity such as music. It's like trying to regulate air. It's an open commodity that everyone can access it. Someone can cover the song, record the song again, transfer it into digital codes and send them over the Internet with ease.
This will always be a losing battle for the recording industry. If anything, deleting music blogs will just get people more upset. Music blogs allow people to share music and expose others to new kind of music that they would never have heard of otherwise. To be honest, I would never have spent money on certain artists if I was not exposed to them through the Internet. I guess the big name stars (ie. Mariah Carey) does not need that promotions, so her label can unleash their fury on bloggers sharing her leaked songs.
This is a difficult balance that service providers such as Bloggers will have to face. These kind of issues are seen for all types of media online beyond just music. For that matter, the Writer's Strike was caused by this same issue. It will be interesting to see how things develop in the next 5-8 years in regards to regulating multimedia shared online. It will be interesting to see how this blog deletion madness will head torwards.
Good luck to all those who got deleted. I wish you all the best in your attempt to recover from this.
